Chelsea injury news and return dates

Chelsea made it four wins on the bounce after beating Sheffield United on Saturday evening.

Frank Lampard’s side were in fine form at Stamford Bridge, especially during the second half when £33.4m summer signing Hakim Ziyech produced a creative masterclass.

Thiago Silva got his first Chelsea goal late on too with Timo Werner chipping in with a late, maybe fortunate, fourth.

But not before Tammy Abraham and Ben Chilwell got themselves on the score sheet to send the Blades towards their eighth defeat in nine.

Here is a round-up of all the very latest Chelsea injury news after that win.

Pulisic could return following the international break, after being ruled out with a hamstring problem in Chelsea’s recent outings.

The USA international failed to recover from the injury that forced him to pull out of the starting line-up against Burnley last weekend and missed games against Rennes and Sheffield United.

“[Pulisic] Not fit to play, still suffering with his hamstring,” Lampard told reporters in his pre-match press conference.

“He’s not training at the moment.

On Pulisic, Lampard added: “He trained at a low level in midweek and wasn’t comfortable. We have to keep looking for the right solution.”

Kai Havertz

Chelsea midfielder Kai Havertz will be back after the international break should he return a negative coronavirus test following his isolation period.

“It showed up in the UEFA testing on Monday,” Lampard said. “We retested yesterday when we found out. Clearly, everyone else in the squad is negative, so that is a good sign. I’ve spoken to Kai a couple of times since we found out.

“He’s at home, he’s isolating and he was very disappointed because he wants to play. He had some minor symptoms yesterday, his symptoms have escalated slightly today but he is fine. I spoke to him two hours before the game today and he’s disappointed to be out.

“He’s trying to do all the right things. It’s just one of those things in the modern day with where we’re at. Hopefully, he isolates, does the right things and comes back firing.”

Kepa Arrizabalaga

Goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga was back available for the Sheffield United game, but was left out of the matchday squad.

“Kepa [Arrizabalaga] has recovered. Slight bit of pain but in the squad tomorrow,” Lampard said on Friday.

Billy Gilmour

Billy Gilmour is making good progress following knee surgery and is back in full training.

“Billy is working really well,” Lampard said prior to last month’s clash with Spanish giants Sevilla. “He’s probably three or four weeks away from his return.

“He’s working outside with the physios at the moment but we hope to integrate him into training with either ourselves or the Under-21s at some point soon.

“We are probably looking at the other side of the next international break with Billy, all being well.”

Meanwhile, Mateo Kovacic and Timo Werner were substituted in the second half against the Blades, but it would appear they were withdrawn for tactical reasons.
